KAARO KARUNGI | KISORO – 25-year-old woman from Buhayo village, Nyakabingo parish, Chahi sub county in Kisoro District has been expelled from the village on allegations of practicing witchcraft.
The suspect has been identified as Uzamukunda Agnes who according to the Bwicyara Clan leader Ndabangutse Fred was expelled after she was caught red handed slaughtering a rabbit on top of a grave in the area.
Ndabangutse said that the clan members decided to send the suspect to her parents’ home so that she can reform and learn how to peacefully live with others.
Ndabangutse says that the village was thrown into shock after the police officer who was called to escort her to the Police post got involved in an accident thus proving that she could have bewitced him.
Buhayo village Chairperson, Iradukunda Norah confirmed Uzamukunda’s expulsion asserting that she confessed of practicing witchcrafts.
Iradukunda told the press that the suspect told them that she intended to kill her brother in-law whom she accused of stealing UGX 10,000/=.
Iradukunda commended the residents for not taking the law into their hands and rather opting to peaceful measures that create harmonious living.
She asked residents facing challenges to pray to God instead of resorting to witch doctors.
Uzamukunda confessed approaching a witchdoctor near Mashaka playground in Mutolere who asked for UGX 200,000 to help her recover her stolen clothes though she denied slaughtering the rabbit on the grave.
