SHEEMA – Nyakarama and Nyakashoga parish residents in Rugarama Sub county Sheema district have today vowed to join opposition parties if this year ends when the government hasn’t yet built their Kamatunguru bridge which has already claimed lives of 8 people in 6 months.
All these were said today morning in their communal work where they said that they have been using this wooden bridge since 90s but that during rainy season, they move over 20Km to access schools, church, market and health Centre using the long route and that whoever risks to cross it, he or she can’t survive.
“I have worked for this government for over 25 years as the chairman but it has neglected our area seriously, whoever needs votes from us,he or she visits this wooden bridge and promises to work on it, others brought sand here but after voting them into power, they can’t come back, we have engaged all leaders from top to bottom but the best solution they give us, is pledging that they will put it in the next financial year, others have already left power still telling us next financial year, we are tired of nrm government” Mzee Alozio Tibizariranwa
Daphine Ninsiima the area lady councillor told us that in the last 6 years, this stream has claimed lives of 8 residents especially those who try to cross it at night whereby there is no way they can dodge to cross there when they need services like education and health
“For Nyakarama people especially those of Kamatunguru, Kyamanengyere 1 and 2 to access education, health, market and religious services, they must cross this bridge, that’s why during rainy season, all parents gather here every morning and evening to help our children cross this deadly wooden bridge a thing that has helped us to save 7 lives of our children who drew into that stream although 1 died instantly, it’s true am a leader but for sure we are tired of this government ” Ninsiima
Chairman LC one of the area Baragaine Magara told us that he is out of words saying that his own father died after drowning in that stream due to failure to cross the bridge when he was coming from polling station to vote president Museveni and area members of parliament,

Provia Rutagyemwa 46 years old said that she had tried to take services nearer to her people by starting a shop in the area but that her dream was stopped by that bridge
“I shopped items worth 1.3M , after reaching here since no vehicle can cross, we decided to put them on a bicycle, reaching in the middle of bridge, one log broke and we drew in the water, there were people who were fishing their mud fish, they helped us to save our lives but almost 90% of the items I had shopped, was taken away by water hence killing my dream, I’m now paying loans for the goods which didn’t even reach in the shop” Provia
