The MK movement, led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has undergone rebranding and is now known as the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
The launch event, held in Naguru, a suburb of Kampala, attracted a significant turnout, including over 50 members of parliament and ministers. Former minister Capt Mike Mukuula represented Gen. Muhoozi at the event.
Supporters and defenders of General MK, referring to Kainerugaba, gathered in large numbers at the launch, showcasing their allegiance to the former commander of the Land Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).
A notable presence of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament from various regions across Uganda was observed in the VIP section.
Micheal Mawanda, from the Central Executive Committee (CEC), highlighted that the MK movement, originating in April 2022, has evolved into the Patriotic League of Uganda after 17 months of active engagement and mobilization.
“We the MK movement hereby constitute ourselves into a civic organization and assume and adopt a new identity as Patriotic League of Uganda,” Mawanda announced, emphasizing the non-partisan nature of PLU.
He further stated, “We undertake that the Patriotic League of Uganda will contribute in a civil capacity towards mobilizing Ugandans to fulfill their civil duties as citizens of this land for the benefit of the society.”
During the launch, PLU retained its colors, with yellow being dominant, complemented by red and black. The symbol of PLU is a lion.
