The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has asked the government to find solutions to the problems caused by floods in cities like Kampala. This request was made during a press conference at the UPC Headquarters, located in Uganda House, Kampala, on Wednesday.
Muzeyi Faizo, the UPC Head of Media and Communications, said, “As our cities grow, we must not ignore the problems caused by nature. UPC is calling on the government to plan for cities in advance to prevent situations where people are affected by flooding in various parts of the country.”
Faizo mentioned that there have been heavy rains recently in Kampala and other parts of Uganda. Last week, there was particularly severe rainfall that led to some roads being blocked by floods, making key office buildings inaccessible. This happened in just one day.
He added, “If such heavy rain had continued for a longer period, there could have been loss of lives and damage to property. Even vehicles were being swept away because of the strong water currents.”
